Safer Access
The winter season coincides with an increase in viruses and other illnesses within school communities. Please review Health Guidance and Resources for Families. In addition, if a student becomes ill during the school day, the school nurse will determine, based on the student’s symptoms and the nurse’s professional clinical judgement, if the student needs to go home. School nurses will work with school administrators and supervisors to ensure that students who are not well enough to stay in school are not sent back to class.
NYC KIDS RISE- Save For College Program
We are reaching out with important information about the upcoming Initial Opt-out Period for the Save for College Program. This year, the Initial Opt-out Period will take place from Monday, 11/4, to Wednesday, 12/4.
All Kindergarten, first, second and third grade students are automatically enrolled in the Save for College Program and receive a free NYC Scholarship Account unless their parent/guardian chooses not to participate by opting out. After learning about the Program during the Education Period, families have the opportunity to opt out of the Program. Parent/guardians who wish to opt out have two options:
-
Opt out within their NYC Schools Account (recommended) OR
-
Return a signed opt-out form to their child’s school for data entry into ATS by December 4th
If families wish to participate in the Program, no additional steps are necessary and they will receive information in January about how to activate and view their child’s NYC Scholarship Account.

The tool includes new security features, such as an optional PIN and security questions that students can use, once they set them up. Refer students and families to the DOE student accounts page on the DOE website for instructions on how to use the tool, including how to set up a PIN and security questions.
